Class Buddies
‘Asking for help isn’t giving up…it’s refusing to give up’. At times, we all need some help; at Crafers, our Class Buddies are often the source. Each year, our younger and older classes are paired together. They regularly meet and undertake interesting tasks and learning in and outside the classroom. The friendships made during these times often spill over into the playground where our big people are helping our smaller people. The relationships built during Buddies are often referred to and remembered by students for many years – it’s special!
Reading Buddies
Connection, community and confidence go hand-in-hand at Crafers Primary School. Our Reading Buddies are a great example of this. Senior students of the school volunteer their time before school once a week. During this time our younger students, who are learning to read can come along, share their books and practise their skills. Not only are the children becoming stronger readers, they are also building relationships and trust with their older peers – it’s a joy to see!
Sports Buddies
Sports Day of one of the year’s highlights: challenge, tenacity, individual pursuit and team work – in the background – practice and organisation. Our younger students are developing their physical skills as well as their social skills like cooperation and encouragement. To help with this, we once again engage some older buddies. In the lead up to Sports Day, older classes can be seen working patiently and confidently with younger students as they learn the skills of games, understand and apply rules and have fun!
